GREENSBURG, PA:  The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team suffered a 10-3 defeat to the No. 21 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday in their home opener at Bobcat Park. The Bobcats drop one game below .500 for the season to 7-8 (1-1 AMCC), while Case Western improves to 15-4.

The Spartans would strike in the top of the first with a solo homerun against Pitt-Greensburg starter Matt Kochasic (Harrison City, PA, Penn-Trafford) to take the early 1-0 lead.

UPG third baseman Matt Germanoski (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) would respond with a shot over the right field fence to lead off the bottom of the first that would tie the game at 1-1.

After Case Western regained the lead with a run in the top of the third, Germanoski would drive a two-out double to right field and come around to score on an Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) single to knot the game at 2-2.

Case Western would use another solo homerun to grab a 3-2 advantage in the top of the fourth.

Yet again Pitt-Greensburg would respond in the bottom of the inning with a run to even the game. Chad Jacob (Bridgeville, PA, Chartiers Valley) smacked a double to lead off the fourth and moved to third on a sacrifice. Jacob would slide in safely at home on an Adam Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park) sacrifice fly to bring the score to 3-3.

The Spartans would take the lead for good in the top of the fifth, plating three runs and knocking Kochasic out of the game.

Case Western added four more runs in the top of the eighth to pull ahead 10-3.

Germanoski and Dylin Brooks (Ardara, PA, Norwin) recorded multi-hit games for the Bobcats, both turning in two for four performances at the plate.

Kochasic lasted 4.2 innings on the mound before making way for Cory Deighan (Bethel Park, PA, Seton-La Salle), who threw 2.1 hitless innings in relief. Billy Elliott (Ligonier, PA, Ligonier Valley) and Brennan Rahl (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) would finish out the game on the rubber for UPG.

Pitt-Greensburg is back in action on Thursday, as they travel to Latrobe to take on Route 30 rival St. Vincent in a nine inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
