PITTSBURGH, Pa: Pitt-Greensburg's Marcus Thomas made a layup with just seconds left to lift the Bobcats to an 86-84 victory over La Roche College Wednesday night.
The Bobcats staged a late comeback after trailing by as many as 13 in the second half, to improve to 6-1 in the conference and 6-8 overall. The Redhawks fall to 1-13 on the season and 1-6 in the AMCC.
UPG trailed by 5 with under 90 seconds to play, when senior
Brian Heinle hit a three pointer to close the gap to just 2 points.  Heinle had been 0 for 7 from three point range before draining one of the bigges shots of the season. On the ensuing position, junior
Jerell Figueroa came up with a clutch steal then set up teammate
Mike Connelly for a layup to tie the game. Figueroa came up with another big defensive play on La Roche's next possession, blocking a potential layup, helping to set up Thomas's game wining bucket.
UPG's
Jarrett Shannon dropped 14 of his 17 points in the first half, shooting 4 of 6 from three point range, helping the Bobcats to a 45-40 halftime lead.
Rocco Contristano picked up the production in the second half, scoring 12 of his 17 points in the second twenty minutes, helping the Bobcats get back into the game.
UPG remains tied for first place in the AMCC at 6-1, along with Hilbert and Penn State Behrend. The Bobcats will face a tough test this Saturday when they travel to Hilbert College for a 4pm tip.
