Heinle,Bobcats roll past Altoona, 91-78

ALTOONA,Pa: Senior Brian Heinle (Brackenridge, PA, St. Joseph) dropped 25 points to lead all scorers in Wednesday night's 91-78 road victory over Penn State Altoona.

The Bobcats improve to 9-9 overall and 9-2 in the AMCC, sitting tied for 2nd place with 7 games remaining.

Wednesday night got off to a sluggish start for both teams, but UPG caught fire in the final 7 minutes of the first half and used a 20-4 run to build a commanding 23 point lead at 33-10 with 2:52 remaining.  The Bobcats went into the half with a 38-19 lead, shooting 45% from the floor including an impressive 8 three point baskets in the first half.

Maybe more impressive was the Bobcat defense in the first half, which held Altoona to just 28% from the floor while keeping the Lions under 20 points.

UPG left no doubt in the second half, controlling a double digit lead the rest of the way to cruise to a 13 point victory.  Heinle scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half, followed up by Marcus Thomas (Uniontown, PA, Uniontown) who posted a 17 point, 5 rebound performance.  Rocco Contristano (Pittsburgh, PA, Keystone Oaks) also had a solid night for the Bobcats, scoring 14 points, while also grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists.

Pitt-Greensburg will return home this Saturday for a showdown with Pitt-Bradford in the AMCC's newly featured Game of the Week.  The Bobcats will enter Saturday two games up on the Panthers (7-4 AMCC).  UPG also won the previous matchup at Bradford, 95-89 back on Dec 13th.

**NOTE: With last night's 25 point performance, senior Brian Heinle now sits at 957 career points, just 43 shy of becoming the school's 8th 1000 point scorer. We will continue to update Heinle's quest for 1000 points over the final 7 remaining games.
