Brian Heinle (Brackenridge, PA, St. Joseph) dropped 25 points to lead all scorers in Wednesday night's 91-78 road victory over Penn State Altoona.
The Bobcats improve to 9-9 overall and 9-2 in the AMCC, sitting tied for 2
nd place with 7 games remaining.
Wednesday night got off to a sluggish start for both teams, but UPG caught fire in the final 7 minutes of the first half and used a 20-4 run to build a commanding 23 point lead at 33-10 with 2:52 remaining. The Bobcats went into the half with a 38-19 lead, shooting 45% from the floor including an impressive 8 three point baskets in the first half.
Maybe more impressive was the Bobcat defense in the first half, which held Altoona to just 28% from the floor while keeping the Lions under 20 points.Â
UPG left no doubt in the second half, controlling a double digit lead the rest of the way to cruise to a 13 point victory. Heinle scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half, followed up by
Marcus Thomas (Uniontown, PA, Uniontown) who posted a 17 point, 5 rebound performance.Â
Rocco Contristano (Pittsburgh, PA, Keystone Oaks) also had a solid night for the Bobcats, scoring 14 points, while also grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists.
Pitt-Greensburg will return home this Saturday for a showdown with Pitt-Bradford in the AMCC's newly featured Game of the Week. The Bobcats will enter Saturday two games up on the Panthers (7-4 AMCC). UPG also won the previous matchup at Bradford, 95-89 back on Dec 13
th.
