GREENSBURG, Pa: Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball improved to 4-0 in the AMCC with a 95-60 dismantling of Franciscan University Wednesday night in front of the home crowd in Chambers Hall.
With the win, the Bobcats remain tied atop the AMCC standings at 4-0, the best start to a conference season under fifth year head coach Sean Strickland.
On Wednesday, the Bobcats got out to a commanding lead and kept the pressure on the Barons, building a 46-23 lead at the half. The Bobcats led by as many as 50 points in the second half, with the outcome of the game never in doubt. UPG had its best shooting night of the season, going 38 for 68 (56%) from the floor for the game. The Bobcats also tallied a season best 44 points off the bench as twelve different players contributed to the scoring.
UPG had five players in double digit scoring, led by forward
Marcus Thomas who had a team high 20 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Senior
Brian Heinle added 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting while
Mike Connelly chipped in 13 points and was 4 of 6 from three point range.
Tyler DeWitt and
Rocco Contristano each added 10 points apiece to round out the bulk of the Bobcat scoring.
Pitt-Greensburg will have a great opportunity to distance themselves in the AMCC this coming weekend with a pair of home conference contests. Up first is a matchup with Medaille College on Saturday, followed up with a tilt against defending AMCC champs, Penn State Behrend on Sunday. Contests for both days are scheduled for a 4pm tip off.
