HAMBURG, NY: Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer earned an important 3-0 road victory over Hilbert College Saturday afternoon.
The win now gives the Bobcats a 4-1 record in the AMCC (5-6-1 overall). The Hawks drop to 0-5 in the AMCC on the season (4-8 overall).
After 40 scoreless minutes, UPG's
Kayleen Schwegler (Aliquippa, PA, Hopewell) gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead on a goal assisted by senior captain
Courtney Carroll (Irwin, PA, Hempfield).
The Bobcats recorded 14 first half shots and held the one-goal advantage at the half.
Schwegler gave the Bobcats some breathing room in the 59
th minute when her shot to the far post was out of the reach of Hawks' keeper Jenna Castircone, making it 2-0 Pitt-Greensburg.
Alexandra Dimoff (Finleyville, PA, Ringgold) assisted on the goal.
The two goals for Schwegler were number 10 and 11 on the season, 2
nd most in the AMCC. Her 7 AMCC goals are tops in the league.
Freshman
Rachel Steinmark (Effort, PA, Pleasant Valley) added her 2
nd goal of the season in the 87
th minute off of a pass from
Brianna Burgunder (Moon Township, PA, Moon), to seal the win for the Bobcats.
UPG keeper
Shannon Edwards (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg) played all 90 minutes in goal, making 5 saves in the shutout victory.
At 4-1 in the AMCC, the Bobcats are tied with Penn State Behrend for 2
nd place, behind 5-0 Pitt-Bradford.
UPG has 4 remaining conference contests remaining, starting with a home match against 2-2 Penn State Altoona this Tuesday, October 13
th. Kickoff at Ridilla Field is set for 4:15pm on Tuesday.
