GREENSBURG, PA: A goal by Pitt-Greensburg freshman
Taylor Oberle (Mt. Lebanon, PA, Mt. Lebanon) in the 38
th minute, couple with a strong defensive effort, led the Bobcats to a 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Pitt-Bradford.
Oberle knocked in a rebound past Bradford keeper Sarah Dailey, only the 4
th goal allowed by Bradford in AMCC play this season.
The defense did the rest, behind UPG keeper
Shannon Edwards (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg), the Bobcats kept the AMCC's #1 ranked team off the scoreboard for 90 minutes. Fittingly on senior day, it was senior
Caitlin Welsh (Penn Township, PA, Penn-Trafford) who stopped Bradford's most dangerous chance. In the 71
st minute, Bradford had a golden opportunity off a deflected ball, and a shot was heading towards an empty net but Welsh was there to come up with a big-time play to preserve the one-goal lead.
UPG was able to run out the clock, knocking off Bradford for the first time in the Chuck Wigle era, and the first time as a program since 2007.
Playing in their final regular season home game, it was a great send-off for seniors Welsh,
Courtney Carroll, and
Mckenzie Plovock. Fortunately for the trio, they will fight on to play one more time at Ridilla Field in the AMCC playoffs.
Pitt-Greensburg finishes the regular season in the AMCC with a record of 6-1-2, and has clinched the #3 seed in the AMCC tournament. The Bobcats will wait for the rest of the seedings to be determined, and will host the #6 seed on Saturday, October 31
