Burgunder's penalty kick lifts Bobcats over Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa: Brianna Burgunder converted on a first-half penalty kick and the defense held strong to give the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team a 1-0 conference win over Mount Aloysius on Wednesday.

The Bobcats improve to 3-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play and 4-6-1 overall. The Mounties fall to 1-3 in the conference and 6-7 overall.

A Mount Aloysius red card in the 42nd minute gave Burgunder the opportunity to net the deciding goal. The Bobcats had missed their only previous penalty kick opportunity this season, but Burgunder kept her cool to bury the ball into the back of the net.

Both teams were kept off of the board in the second half.

Pitt-Greensburg played a stellar game on defense, only allowing seven shots total and two shots on goal.

Shannon Edwards recorded her first shutout of her sophomore season after recorded three shutouts a year ago.

Burgunder had two shots on goal, and Caitlin Hargrave, Kayleen Schwegler, Rachel Steinmark, and Courtney Carroll each contributed with a shot on goal.

All four of Pitt-Greensburg's conference matches this season have been one-goal affairs.

Next up for the Bobcats are the Hawks of Hilbert College. Pitt-Greensburg will travel to Hamburg, NY on Saturday looking for their third conference victory in a row. The match is set to start at 3:15pm.
