Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats come up short against Chatham

GREENSBURG, Pa:  The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team fell to the visiting Cougars of Chatham University by a 77-64 score on Tuesday evening.  Only one point would separate the teams at the half, but the Cougars would create some separation in the second half to hand the Bobcats a 13 point defeat.

The first quarter saw the lead change on three separate occasions with Pitt-Greensburg holding the advantage for the bulk of the quarter.  Their largest lead of five would come early but some back-and-forth basketball down the stretch would give Chatham a one-point 17-16 lead heading into the second.

They'd equal each other's scoring output in the second and trade the advantage eight times over the quarter, but two Chatham free-throws with three seconds remaining would keep the Cougars up one at 34-33 heading into the halftime break.

The Bobcats would break out a 9-2 run to kick-off the third quarter starting with a Lyndy Baer (Hollsopple, PA, Conemaugh Township) three and ending with a Stephanie McCall (Eau Claire, PA, Moniteau) layup at the 6:19 mark to give UPG a 42-36 lead.  Chatham would answer back over the next two minutes and recapture the lead at 43-42.  From there on out, Pitt-Greensburg battled for the bulk of the quarter keeping it at a one possession game, but a Cougar layup as time expired stretched the deficit to five at 54-49.

Twice Pitt-Greenburg would cut the Cougar lead to three to start the fourth, but Chatham would create the separation down the stretch to walk away with the 77-64 victory.

The loss drops UPG to 0-4 on the season as Chatham improves to 3-1.

The Bobcats were led on the offensive end by Emily Nelson's (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) 13 points, followed by 10 point performances from Casey Hamilton (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) and Sylvia Stuart (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin East).  Stuart would also pull down 10 boards for her first double-double of the season.  On the defensive end, Lindsey D'Agostino (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin East) picked up a game-high seven steals.

The Bobcats will look to get in the win column this weekend with a Saturday, November 28th game at Geneva College with tip set for 2:00pm.
