PITTSBURGH, Pa: The #3 seeded Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team's title run came up a little short on Saturday after falling to the #1 seeded Redhawks of La Roche College, 73-55 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament finals.
The Bobcats close the season with an 18-10 record as La Roche improves to 22-5 and earns the conference's automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.
After trading baskets and the lead on four occasion in the opening minutes of Saturday's finals, Pitt-Greensburg would post the games first run. Trailing 6-5 at the 16:58 mark, the Bobcats would outscore the Redhawks 17-6 to build a 22-12 advantage with 8:54 remaining in the half. La Roche would cut into the lead over the next eight minutes and regain it, 29-28 with :50 left. The Redhawks would add one more basket before the half and take a 31-28 lead into the break.
Pitt-Greensburg posted a solid shooting first half where they converted 39% from the floor but only shot a total of eight first half free throws compared to the Redhawks 15 attempts.
The second half would see the Redhawks create some seperation while slowly stretching their lead. They'd go up 49-37 until a
Kayla Dames (Oakdale, PA, Chartiers Valley) three pointer at 13:44 cut the lead to nine.
Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) would follow with a pair of free throw's at 13:04, bringing the game to 49-42.

Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) would draw a foul on an attempted three pointer on the next offensive posession, giving the Bobcats a chance to cut it to four but only one would fall, once again placing the defecit at six, 50-44 with 10:42 to play. Unfortunately for UPG, they'd get no closer as La Roche pulled away to earn their sixth straight AMCC title by the 73-55 score.
Despite the loss, Pitt-Greensburg would outshoot LRC from the floor 38% to 35%, from three 33% to 20% and sit even in the rebounding department as both teams finished with 41.
In true fashion, senior standout Morgan Biddle would lead the Bobcats with a double-double performance consisting of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Dames would also finish in double figures with 11 points.
The season comes to an end for Pitt-Greensburg after achieving the highest women's basketball finish since the 2008-09 title season. After consistent improvement each year, coaches Erin Eaton and Dee Waters have the Bobcats back in a position to consistently compete with the AMCC's best. The 2015 senior class, the first recruiting class of Eaton's tenure has set the bar high for the returners to uphold and will truly be missed as the program moves forward.
