BRADENTON, FL:Â A run filled first inning by the Bobcats at McKechnie Field would lead to a lopsided 14-3 victory over the Emerson College Lions.
With the win, Pitt-Greensburg evens their record at 3-3 on the early season while the Lions fall to 0-5.
The Bobcats wouldn't have to wait too long to get on the board after two straight walks and a
Chad Jacob (Bridgeville, PA, Chartiers Valley) single loaded the bases to open Tuesday's contest.Â
Greg Lynn (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) would score UPG's first run one batter later when
Matt Germanoski (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) was struck by an inside pitch followed by an
Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) single that would score two more.Â
Anthony Maroadi (North Huntingdon, PA, Norwin) would walk next with a
John Buerkle (Jacksonville, FL, Fletcher) single advancing both he and Bozzuto and once again load the bases. Lynn would step to the plate for the second time in the inning, breaking the game open with a two-out, three run doulble to extend the Bobcat lead to 7-0. A
Dylan Pounds' (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) single up the middle would bring Lynn home and cap the first inning scoring at 8-0.
Emerson would get on the board next, plating their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
UPG would answer in the top of the third inning with a pair of runs compliments of a Germanoski single to center field that scored Lynn followed by a
Tyler Lilja (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) double that brought Germanoski home.
The Lions would cut into the Bobcats' lead in the bottom of the inning after a pair of runs brought the score to 10-3.
The Bobcats would put the game away in the fifth starting with a solo homerun sent over the leftfield fence by Jacob to lead off the inning. Germanoski would cross home next thanks to a Bozzuto single followed by a two run triple by Buerkle to cap the afternoon's scoring at 14-3.
Matt Moyer (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) would be credited with the win after allowing three runs and striking out three batters over three innings. The Bobcat bullpen would then combine for four scoreless innings to close out the game with
Brandon Rowland (Greensburg, PA, Greensburg Salem),
Travis Sanner (Dawson, PA, Frazier), Jacob,
Cohl Gibbs (Williamstown, NJ, Williamstown), and
Cory Deighan (Bethel Park, PA, Seton-La Salle) all making contributions.
Pitt-Greensburg was led by Jacob's 3-4 performance that included a homerun, two runs scored and an RBI. Lynn, Germanoski, Bozzuto, and Buerkle would all tally two hits on the day with Lynn and Germanoski registering team-highs in runs with three and Lynn, Bozzuto, and Buerkle posting three RBI each.
Pitt-Greensburg continues the RussMatt Invitational tomorrow with a 1:00pm doubleheader in Auburndale, FL against Iowa Wesleyan.
