WASHINGTON, PA: A big sixth and seventh inning by the Bobcats would break a 1-0 deadlock and lead to a 9-1 victory for Pitt-Greensburg baseball over Hiram College on Saturday night.
The victory improves the Bobcats to 6-5 on the season as the Terriers drop to 3-9.
After falling behind 1-0 on a Terrier first inning run, Pitt-Greensburg would answer with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The game tying run would come from the bat of
Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield), who sent a RBI single to center field to bring
Chad Jacob (Bridgeville, PA, Chartiers Valley) across home plate for a 1-1 score.
Two innings later the Bobcats would capture the lead with a four-run sixth inning. A
Matt Germanoski (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) single to left field would plate one run followed by a
Tyler Lilja (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) triple that would bring in two more. A
Matt Moyer (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) single would cap the innings scoring as Lilja crossed home for a 5-1 advantage in favor of the Bobcats.
The seventh inning would see three more runs by UPG starting with another RBI single by Bozzuto that scored Jacob. Two batters later, Moyer would deliver a single to score Germanoski and load the bases for
John Buerkle (Jacksonville, FL, Fletcher), who'd work the pitcher for a walk to bring Bozzuto home for the 8-1 advantage.
Pitt-Greensburg would add an insurance run in the eighth inning thanks to a one-run double to center field by
Eddie Schuessler (Pittsburgh, PA, Carrick) that stretched the Bobcat lead to 9-1.
Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) would shut the door on Hiram, striking out all three Terrier batters for a scoreless ninth inning.
Pitt-Greensburg would tally 13 hits on the evening with Germanoski leading the way after finishing 3-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Jacob would tally a team-high four runs scored after going 2-5 and Bozzuto, Lilja, and Moyer would all finish the game with two RBI a piece.
Six pitchers spent time on the mound on Saturday, holding Hiram to just four hits with Jacob earning the win after 2.1 innings of middle relief where he allowed 1 hit and one walk.
The Bobcats will be back to action on Monday, March 24
th when they travel to Waynesburg University for a 4:00pm nine inning game with Yellow Jackets.
