Game Recap: Baseball |

Pitt-Greensburg plays to split with St. Vincent

LATROBE, PA:  The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team took the short trip down route 30 to face St. Vincent College in a mid-week non-conference baseball doubleheader.  The Bearcats would take the opener by a 9-3 score but the Bobcats would bounce back for a 4-3 victory in game two.

The split moves Pitt-Greensburg's record to 13-12-1 overall as SVC now sits at 11-15 on the year.

Game 1:
The Bobcats would take a little time to get their offense going and find themselves trailing 7-0 after the first three innings.  They'd get on the board in the top of the fourth on a Matt Germanoski (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) RBI single that scored Chad Jacob (Bridgeville, PA, Chartiers Valley) who doubled one batter before.

Saint Vincent would respond with a pair of fourth inning runs that stretched their advantage to 9-1.

Two more Pitt-Greensburg runs in the sixth would bring the score to 9-3 with the first coming courtesy of a Jacob sacrifice fly that brought shortstop Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) in from third base.  A Germanoski single would move Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) to third and allow a Matt Moyer (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) sacrifice fly to score Bozzuto one batter later.

That would make up the offense for both teams as a scoreless seventh would bring us to our 9-3 final.

Germanoski would be the lone Bobcat with multiple hits after finishing 2-2 while adding a RBI in the opener.

Nick Anderson (Brockway, PA, Brockway) would pick up the loss after pitching 2.1 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits.  Tyler Potutschnig (Flinton, PA, Glendale) would finish out the third, allowing a pair of runs before making way for Eddie Schuessler (Pittsburgh, PA, Carrick) to finish out the game.  Schuessler would provide three scoreless innings for the Bobcats, allowing just one hit while striking out one.

Game 2:
Germanoski would continue his hot hitting and send an RBI single to left field, scoring Mike Maleski (Pittsburgh, PA, Plum) to give UPG an early 1-0 lead.

The Bearcats would snatch the lead back in the second with two runs to take a 2-1 advantage.

A Germanoski double would get things going with two outs in the top of the third.  A throwing error by the Bearcat pitcher on a ball hit by Jacob would bring Germanoski in and place Jacob on second base.  Anthony Maroadi (North Huntingdon, PA, Norwin) kept the rally going, singling to leftfield to score Jacob, then promptly stealing second to place another UPG runner in scoring position.  Tyler Lilja (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) took full advantage and sent a single past second to score Maroadi, giving the Bobcats a 4-2 lead in the process.

St. Vincent would muster only one more run on their way to the 4-3 nightcap defeat at the hands of the Bobcats.

Germanoski would once again lead the way with another 2-2 performance that included a double, one run scored, one RBI, and a stolen base.

Mr. Utility himself, Matt Moyer improved to 2-0 on the year after pitching the first 3.2 innings, striking out four batters, and allowing two runs, one earned on three hits.  Adam Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park) would provide 1.2 innings of middle relief and allow one run on one hit while striking out one.  Brandon Hoener (Pittsburgh, PA, Plum) then finished out the final 1.2 innings in scoreless fashion.

The Bobcats will have a couple days of rest before making the trip to Erie, PA for an important conference doubleheader with the Lions of Penn State Behrend on Saturday, April 18th.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
