GREENSBURG, PA: The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team fell 15-1 to Division III's number two ranked team, Frostburg State.
The nonconference loss brings the regular season to an end and drops the Bobcats to 23-17-1 while Frostburg improves to 36-5 on the year.
Pitt-Greensburg would work themselves into an early hole, falling behind Frostburg by an 8-0 score before getting on the board in the bottom of the fifth. The Bobcat run would come from the bat of
Tyler Lilja (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield). Lilja would send a two-out solo homerun, his seventh of the year, soaring over the right field fence to bring the score to 8-1.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, that would do it for the UPG offense as Frostburg collected seven more runs over the final four innings to capture the 15-1 final.
Pitt-Greensburg would muster four hits on the afternoon, with
Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) claiming two. The other two coming from Lilja's homerun and an
Anthony Maroadi (North Huntingdon, PA, Norwin) single.
Seven pitchers would make appearances for UPG with
Joe Stavor (West Mifflin, PA, West Mifflin) picking up the loss. Only
Mike Parlak (Connellsville, PA, Connellsville) and Pounds would come away unscathed from the heavy hitting Frostburg lineup.
The Bobcats will look to bounce back with the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Baseball Championships on the horizon. Pitt-Greensburg faces La Roche College this Friday, May 8
th at 4:00pm in a rematch of last year's championship game. For details on the upcoming Championships, make sure to check back.
