Women's soccer plays Bethany to 1-1 tie

BETHANY, WV: Freshman Chelsea Sundy (Aliquippa, PA, Hopewell) scored her first collegiate goal as the Bobcats tied Bethany College 1-1 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
Sundy got the Bobcats on the board early, netting her first goal in the 5th minute of play to give UPG a 1-0 lead.

The lead would hold up until the 27th minute of the first half when Bethany's Julie Slezak scored on a deflected ball off of corner kick that hit off UPG keeper Shannon Edwards (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg) and went in, knotting the game at 1-1.

Pitt-Greensburg controlled play for much of the first half, putting up 14 shots to Bethany's 5.

The big play of the second half would come in the 56th minute when Bethany's Brittany Fullbright lined up to take a penalty kick.  Edwards came up big in goal for the Bobcats, making a clutch save to keep the game tied.

UPG again would dominate the offensive end, putting up 10 shots but unable to get one past Bison keeper Taylor Sasak.

After a scoreless 1st overtime period, the Bobcats were back on the attack in the final 10 minutes of the contest, knocking on the door with four corner kick opportunities in the final minutes, but would ultimately have to settle for the draw.

Edwards went on to make 7 saves on the day for the Bobcats, who run their record to 1-5-1 on the young season. Bethany now sits at 2-5-1.

Pitt-Greensburg will open up conference play this weekend when they travel to Buffalo, NY for a matchup against AMCC foe Medaille College.  The game is set for 4:15pm at the D'Youville Outdoor Sports Complex.

The Bobcats will look to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Mavericks last September as they march towards an AMCC playoff berth.
