GREENSBURG, PA: The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to visiting La Roche College on Wednesday afternoon at Ridilla Field, falling in overtime. The loss drops Head Coach
Chuck Wigle's team to 2-6-1 overall on the season including a 1-1-0 mark in conference play.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead late in the first half when freshman forward
Kayleen Schwegler (Aliquippa, PA, Hopewell) converted a cross from fellow freshman
Caitlin Hargrave (Swoyersville, PA, Wyoming Valley West). It was Schwegler's team-high eighth goal of the season while the assist marked Hargrave's first career collegiate point. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Redhawks found the back of the net at the 41:47 mark when sophomore
Vanessa Ceravolo (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) tallied her ninth goal of the season to tie the score after 45 minutes of action.
La Roche was fortunate to find themselves in a close game, largely in part to the play of their goalkeeper, Destiney Davis, who made several outstanding saves preventing the Bobcats from building a lead.
In the second half, neither team could gain an edge before Ceravolo registered her second goal of the game just 1:34 into overtime, propelling La Roche to the victory. Sophomore netminder
Shannon Edwards (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) collected six saves in goal for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will be back in action this Saturday when they host D'Youville College in an important AMCC contest. Saturday's match at Ridlla Field is part of Pitt-Greensburg's Blue & Gold Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff is set for 3:15pm.
