GREENSBURG, PA: Five different Bobcats posted double-digit scoring performances on Monday to help propel Pitt-Greensburg to a 65-58 over visiting Mount Aloysius College.
Monday's matchup marks the midway point of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play and with the victory, UPG moves into fourth place with a 5-4 conference mark. Overall the Bobcats sit at 7-9 while MTA posts a matching 5-4 AMCC record and 8-8 on the season.
A tight first quarter would see three ties, the latter coming with 28 seconds remaining and the score knotted at 13-13.
Chianti Sivek (Finleyville, PA, Ringgold) would deliver a layup with 11 tics remaining to break the deadlock and give the Bobcats a lead they'd refuse to give up for the rest of Monday's contest.
A Sivek layup to open up the second would ignite a 12-3 run by UPG that spanned the quarter's first five minutes, putting the home team up 27-16. The Mounties would cut into the deficit before half, getting within six points, but two Sivek foul shots with 15 seconds to go placed Pitt-Greensburg atop a 35-27 lead at the break.
The third would remain tight, with MTA closing the gap to three points, 42-39 with 3:46 remaining in the quarter.
Amanda Estok (Monroeville, PA, Gateway) would answer 28 seconds later with a three point play after getting to the rim to convert the layup and cashing in from the charity stripe. The Bobcats would extend that lead to seven, 49-42, thanks to a
Casey Hamilton (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) jumper as the quarter came to a close.
Mount Aloysius would use the fourth quarter to get within three, 61-58 with just 1:11 left in the game. But, once again the Bobcats would answer, this time with an
Kelsey Oddis (Lower Burrell, PA, Burrell) layup to beat the Mountie full-court pressure followed by two
Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) free throws with 11 seconds left to clinch the 65-58 victory.
Pitt-Greensburg would hold advantages in all shooting categories. 38% to 35% from the floor, 47% (8-17) to 27% (3-11) from three, and finally 73% to 69% from the foul line.
Individually the Bobcats would have five players finish in double figures. Nelson and Oddis would lead the way with 14 each, with Nelson also chipping in with a game-high seven assists. Estok would turn in 11 points while Hamilton and Sivek each finished with 10 points apiece. Hamilton would also pull down a team-high seven boards.
UPG will carry their two game winning streak up to Buffalo, NY this weekend for a 3:00pm contest with D'Youville College. Saturday, January 23
rd will mark the second time these teams have clashed this year with the Bobcats capturing a 74-57 victory in their first meeting.
