BUFFALO, NY: 24 rebounds by sophomore
Kelsey Oddis (Lower Burrell, PA, Burrell) were enough to tie her for the single-game school record, but not enough to propel the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team to victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats would fall 78-55 on the home court of the D'Youville College Spartans, sliding to 5-5 in conference play and 7-10 overall. The Spartans improve to 3-8 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and 6-12 on the year.
An 8-2 D'Youville run to open the game would put Pitt-Greensburg in catch-up mode early. Unfortunately for the vistors, a strong shooting performance by the Spartans would extend the deficit to 26-13 to end the first quarter.
The second would see D'Youville increase their advantage and at the midway point lead 39-18. The Bobcats would battle back, closing out the half on a 10-3 run capped by a
Casey Hamilton (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) layup to bring the score to 43-28.
UPG would convert 35% of their first half shots compared to the 51% posted by DYC.
D'Youville would not relinquish the lead in the second half, growing the advantage to as many as 29 points en route 78-55 victory.
The Spartans finished Saturday with a 46% to 29% shooting advantage, but the Bobcats would dominate the boards 50 to 36. Thanks mainly to the mammoth effort of Oddis. Her 24 rebound performance moves her even with former AMCC Player of the Year, Casey Stanton and her mark set against Hilbert College in 2011.
Oddis also paced the Pitt-Greensburg offense with 16 points to round out the double-double.
Amanda Estok (Monroeville, PA, Gateway) would also finish in double figures with 11 points.
The Bobcats travel back to Chambers Hall for their next AMCC matchup on Wednesday, January 27
th against Penn State Altoona at 8:00pm.
