Burgunder’s PK Lifts Women’s Soccer To Sixth-Straight Win; Bobcats Clinch Second Seed In AMCC Tournament

ALTOONA- Bri Burgunder's penalty-kick in the 103rd minute broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Penn State Altoona in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular-season finale Tuesday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium.

Prior to Tuesday's match, Pitt-Bradford played to a 1-1 tie with D'Youville. With the tie, Pitt-Greensburg clinched the second seed in the AMCC Tournament and will face the winner of the #5 Hilbert at #4 Mount Aloysius.

Trailing 1-0 with under 10 minutes left in regulation, the Bobcats continued to push the attack and Burgunder took a pass from Kayleen Schwegler and buried her shot from eight yards out for her 11th goal of the year.

Altoona outshot the Bobcats 10-5 in the first half, but goalies Kaitlyn Watson and Molly Malone each made two saves to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

Both teams had scoring chances in the first half, as both sides had shots that hit the cross bar. Kyrstin Johnson had a shot find the iron in the fifth minute, while Hayley Hulbert's attempt smacked the top of the goal with three minutes left in the opening 45 minutes.

Shoshana Mahoney broke the scoreless draw for Altoona with her first goal of the second in the 63rd minute.

It looked as if the Lions would hold on for the victory, but Burgunder tied the game with just six minutes left in regulation and converted a penalty kick in the second OT to give Pitt-Greensburg its sixth-consecutive win.

Pitt-Greensburg earns the no. 2 seed in the AMCC Tournament where it will receive a bye into the semifinals where it will face the winner of no. 5 Hilbert and no. 4 Mount Aloysius.
