Women’s Soccer Tops Pitt-Bradford In AMCC Tournament Semifinal; Advances To First Title Game In Program History

HEMPFIELD- Jessica Moore's two goals lifted the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Pitt-Bradford in an AMCC semifinal on Wednesday evening at Hempfield High School. Pitt-Greensburg advances to its first Allegheny Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship in program history on Saturday where it will face top seed and host Penn State Behrend.

The Lions advanced to Saturday's title game with a convincing 4-0 win over Mt. Aloysius. Saturday's winner will receive the AMCC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Bobcats came out with aggression in the first half and outshot the Panthers 6-2, but the game would remain scoreless at halftime.

That all would change just over six minutes into the second half, when Kayleen Schwegler threaded the ball through the Pitt-Bradford defense and onto Moore who received the ball in stride and slid it past the keeper to put the Bobcats up 1-0.

Moore was it at again later in the half and this time took a pass from Bri Burgunderr who dribbled the ball along the end line and gave a great pass to the penalty kick stripe and the freshman forward Moore, buried her second of the match to lift the Bobcats to the 2-0 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg had the majority of the scoring chances in the second half and held a commanding 9-2 advantage in shot attempts. The Bobcats were solid on both sides of the goal and kept the Panthers scoring chances to a minimum as all four of Pitt-Bradford shots were off target and away from its goal.

This was the third semifinal appearance for Pitt-Greensburg, but the fourth time was a charm as the Bobcats clinch a berth in the conference final for the first time in program history. Currently in his fifth season as head coach, Chuck Wigle guided the Bobcats to just their third win in program history in the AMCC tournament and the first victory since it defeated Medaille in 2005.

Pitt-Greensburg has faced Penn State Behrend on two other occasions in postseason play with the Lions taking both games, a 3-1 victory in 2005 and a 1-1 draw in 2003 which Behrend advanced 7-6 on penalty kicks.

The two teams played earlier this season with Behrend winning 8-0, but Pitt-Greensburg played with just nine players due to injury.
