Volleyball Drops Regular-Season Finale To Pitt-Bradford; Faces No. 3 Seed D’Youville Wednesday


GRREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team fell to Pitt-Bradford 3-1 in the final regular-season match on Saturday afternoon in Chambers Hall.

With the victory, Pitt-Bradford improves to an impressive 23-5 overall and completes a perfect AMCC portion of the schedule with a 9-0 record, while Pitt-Greensburg falls to 8-20 and 4-5 in conference play.

Prior to Saturday's match, Pitt-Greensburg seniors were honored; Paige Misawic, Elizabeth Gerda, Renee' Ault and Lauren Tassone. Marla Shaffer was also honored as she plans to transfer to Pitt's main campus down in Oakland at the end of the academic year.

Both teams qualified for next week's AMCC tournament with Bradford entering as the top seed and Pitt-Greensburg as the no. 6 seed.  Bradford will host the final four teams next Saturday (Nov. 5), and will play the winner of La Roche at Franciscan), while the Bobcats face D'Youville (Nov.5) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Pitt-Greensburg proved to be a tough test for the Panthers playing fourth tough sets, but Bradford's powerful hitters proved to be too much. Bradford totaled 52 kills over the four sets with just 16 errors for a .248 hitting percentage, while Pitt-Greensburg had 38 kills with 26 errors for an 0.079 hitting percentage.

Kirsten Platz led the way for the Panthers with a match-high 16 kills and nine blocks, while Autumn Karlheim led the Bobcats with 11 kills and Tassone and Ault each chipped in with nine and seven kills respectively.

Misawic aided the Bobcats' efforts on the offensive side with 20 assists whileErica Bosh continually kept the play alive through all four sets totaling a match-high 23 digs.

Pitt-Greensburg ends the regular-season with eight victories, which is the most wins for the Bobcats since they posted 13 in 2008.
