Kelsey Oddis scored 14 points but York College used constant pressure to defeat the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team 94-55, in the first game of the York College versus Cancer Classic on Friday evening in the Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
With the victory, York College improves to 2-0 while Pitt-Greensburg suffers its first loss of the season and falls to 1-1.
The Spartans were very aggressive on defense for the majority of the game and forced the Bobcats to turn the ball over 30 times while committing just 13 and cashed in the mistakes for 42 points off turnovers compared to just 10 for Pitt-Greensburg.
While Pitt-Greensburg did lose the turnover battle, they crashed the boards on both sides of the court and won the rebounding battle 36-35. The Bobcats made it an effort to drive the ball down the lane for easy baskets and made 19-of-28 from the free-throw line and held York to just 14 attempts from the charity stripe.
Lyndy Baer and
Jenna Cole each scored in double-figures for the game with 12 and 10 respectively and Cole hauled down seven boards while
Sylvia Stuart and
Casey Hamilton each chipped in with six rebounds.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 6-2 lead with 8:12 remaining in the opening quarter but York came back and would hold the advantage for the remainder of the game.
York totaled 27 assists on 39 made field goals and shot over 50% in both halves, knocking down 55.6% in the first half and 52.8% in the final 20 minutes of action. The Bobcats knocked down 8-of-24 shots in both the first and second halves of action.
Pitt-Greensburg will face the loser of Arcadia and Eastern in tomorrow's consolation game at 1:00 p.m., while York will face the winner of that matchup in the championship at 3:00 p.m.
