Volleyball Falls To La Roche In Five-Set Battle In AMCC Tournament First Round


PITTSBURGH- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team dropped a five-set battle to La Roche in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Wednesday evening.

Pitt-Greensburg pushed La Roche to the brink as the two sides split the first four sets but ultimately it was the Redhawks that came out victorious taking the fifth and final set 15-9.

The Bobcats stormed out and took the opening set 25-18, but La Roche evened the match up with a 25-19 triumph in set two. The two sides went into extras in the third set but it was the Bobcats that prevailed 26-24. La Roche took the fourth set and forced a fifth and final stanza winning 25-15.

The Bobcats jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the final set, but the Redhawks took four straight points to reclaim the lead. Pitt-Greensburg cut the lead to 7-6 but La Roche put the game away as Laura Nath scored three-straight kills and accounted for four of the next six points to seal the victory.

Renee' Ault led the way offensive with 13 kills while Autumn Karlheim and Lauren Tassone also had proficient games with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Paige Misawic had 25 assists over the five sets followed by Emma Dongilli who totaled 15.

The Bobcats kept the Redhawks off balance with attacks from all sides of the net as Pitt-Greensburg had three players that were tied with a team-high 33 attacks.

La Roche continued to go through the conference's leading attacker Laura Nath and she didn't disappoint totaling a match-high 28 kills on 66 attacks for an impressive .364 hitting percentage.

In just her second season at the helm, head coach Kylynn Smith guided the Bobcats to their first appearance in the postseason tournament since 2009 and its most wins since 2008.
