NEW WILMINGTON-
Kelsey Oddis poured in a game-high 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the floor, but Westminster shot 48.0% from the floor in the second half to pick up a 65-62 victory over the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon.
Despite not shooting well in the second half and just 30.0% for the game, the Bobcats found other ways to keep the game close as they held a 46-43 advantage on the glass, including a 17-13 margin in offensive rebounds and went 21-of-33 from the free-throw line while limiting Westminster to just 14-of-19. The 33 attempts for Pitt-Greensburg were a season-high for the Bobcats in 2016-17.
Six games into the 2016-17 season, Pitt-Greensburg has dominated its opponents, winning the rebounding margin in every contest averaging 45 boards per contest and limiting its opponents to just 36.
Jenna Cole and
Lyndy Baer were also in double-figures for the Bobcats on Sunday afternoon totaling 19 and 13 points respectively. In her first season for the Bobcats, Cole has started every game for the Bobcats this season and has been productive on the offensive end notching double-figure scoring outputs in all six games this season.
Pitt-Greensburg held onto the lead early on in the first quarter as Cole drilled one of her two three-pointers on the afternoon to put the Bobcats ahead 8-7, but the Titans responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead back 26-20 heading into the second quarter.
The Bobcats chipped away at the deficit in the second quarter and tied the game at 29 on a layup by Oddis and regained the advantage on an ensuing three-pointer by Oddis with 2:16 left in the half.
Kayla Bennett connected on 1-of-2 from the charity stripe with one minute left in the half, but Pitt-Greensburg went into halftime holding a 32-30 lead.
Westminster held the lead for all but two minutes in the third quarter, but Cole's layup cut the deficit to 48-45 heading into the final 10 minutes.
A free-throw from Fromknecht extended the Titan lead to six (61-55) with 4:04 left in regulation, but Pitt-Greensburg fought back and trimmed the lead to three, 65-62 on Baer's layup with 1:05 left.
Pitt-Greensburg played great on the next possession forcing a turnover before head coach Erin Eaton called a timeout to advance the basketball.
After the timeout, the Bobcats got two great looks at the hoop from behind the three-point line but neither would fall and Westminster survived for the 65-62 victory.
The Bobcats return to the court Wednesday for their AMCC opener at Penn State Altoona at 6:00 p.m.
