Women’s Basketball Defeats Penn State Altoona Wednesday Night; Lyndy Baer Dishes Out School Record 15 assists

ALTOONA- Senior Lyndy Baer set a new single-game school record with 15 assists and four players scored in double-figures as the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball (2-5, 1-0 AMCC) team snapped a five-game losing streak with an 87-76 victory at Penn State Altoona (0-3, 0-1 AMCC) in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener on Wednesday night.

Baer dished out 15 assists on Tuesday night which breaks the previous record of 13 which was set by Emily Nelson against Mt. Aloysius on Nov, 28, 2012.

Four players had double-digit scoring performances in the victory led Kelsey Oddis' 23 points on 11-of-29 from the field.Sylvia Stuart and Jenna Cole each posted double-doubles for Pitt-Greensburg as Stuart scored 20 points and added 12 rebounds, while Cole totaled 18 points and 10 boards.

Colleen Murphy was the fourth player to notch a double-figure scoring night for the Bobcats as she scored 13 points, including drilling three of her six attempts from behind the three point arc.

Pitt-Greensburg dominated Altoona in the rebounding battle 50-34, including holding a 19-8 advantage on the offensive glass, and converted the offensive boards into 20 second chance points compared to just seven for Altoona.

The Bobcats also set a season-high with 25 assists and were extremely efficient shooting the basketball hitting 39-of-83 from the field for a 47.0% clip.

Pitt-Greensburg raced out to a quick 9-0 advantage over the opening three minutes of the first quarter and held a 19-9 advantage heading into the second stanza.

The second quarter was much of the same as the Bobcats held the lead for the entire quarter, the largest advantage coming on a made layup by Oddis to extend the advantage to 15, 26-11.

Brittany Boslet nailed a jumper with 53 seconds left in the quarter to cut the deficit to six (40-34) at halftime.

Penn State Altoona fought its way back and took its first lead of the game 54-43 on a made layup by Kaley Strittmatter, but the Bobcats retook the lead and would never look back as it snapped the losing streak with an 87-76 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns home for its next game Saturday, when it hosts Mt. Aloysius for its AMCC Home Opener at 2:00 p.m.
