GREENSBURG-
Kelsey Oddis scored a game-high 23 points and the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (3-5, 2-0 AMCC) held of a fourth quarter surge by Medaille (1-5, 0-1 AMCC) to pick up its second straight victory with a 73-70 win in the Allegheny Mountain College Conference home opener on Saturday afternoon in Chambers Hall.
Pitt-Greensburg grabbed a 64-55 advantage on a layup by Oddis with 5:24 left in the fourth quarter, but Medaille responded with an 8-0 surge over the next two minutes to trim the deficit to one as Marceann Dunning hit both of her free-throw attempts.
Lyndy Baerr connected on 1-of-2 from the line to extend the lead to two, but after Kelli Mccauley tied the game at 65, Oddis made two consecutive layups to give the Bobcats some breathing room.
Medaille continued to fight back but Pitt-Greensburg held the Mavericks off with clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch as the Bobcats hit 4-of-6 from the line in the final minute to seal the victory.
Alongside Oddis, Pitt-Greensburg totaled three other players in double-figures as
Jenna Cole tallied 18 points and nine boards, while Baer and
Sylvia Stuart each chipped in with 13.
The Bobcats dominated the glass holding a 46-29 advantage, including an 18-7 margin on the offensive glass.
Medaille knocked down 8-of-17 from behind the three-point arc, but Pitt-Greensburg countered with 20 second chance points and held the Mavericks to just eight.
Leading the charge for the Mavericks offensively was Kelly Mccauley who totaled 21 points, which included hitting 4-of-10 behind the three-point arc.
Helping aid the Bobcats in victory was their free-throw shooting as they connected on 20-of-24 from the line for an impressive 83.3% clip.
Pitt-Greensburg hosts Mt. Aloysius in its next game Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
