BUFFALO, N.Y.-
Sylvia Stuart scored a game-high 23 points and completed her second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team fell 67-59 to host D'Youville in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, D'Youville improves to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Pitt-Greensburg falls to 3-7 and 2-2 in the AMCC.
As they have done in all 10 games this season, the Bobcats won the battle of the boards for a 46-35 margin and held a 16-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. Both sides did a great job of adjusting to the offensive rebounds as the two sides combined for 29 boards and just 26 second chance points.
Lyndy Baer did a great job of finding her teammates and setting them up for open looks at the basket as she totaled double-digit assists for the second time this season with 10 and as a team, Pitt-Greensburg totaled 19 assists on 24 made field goals, its second highest assist total in a single game this season.
Along with Stuart's game-high 23 points,
Kelsey Oddis and
Colleen Murphy also scored in double-figures with 13 points respectively, while for D'Youville Jean-Ann Korona led the way with 19 points, nine rebounds, and seven steals.
Pitt-Greensburg opened with the game's first basket to take a 2-0 lead, but D'Youville responded with a three-pointer by Hannah Simone to go ahead by one, a lead it would hold for the remainder of the quarter. The Spartans led by as much as nine in the opening 10 minutes, but the Bobcats fought back and trailed by just three at the end of the quarter.
The Spartans continued to hold the advantage into the second quarter until the lead would change hands on Oddis' layup with 5:43 left in the half, but the Spartans held the Bobcats scoreless over the final 1:53 and went into the half with a 33-28 advantage.
Pitt-Greensburg went scoreless in the first 2:54 to open the half and D'Youville extended its lead to 40-28, but the Bobcats regrouped and would race out to an 18-8 over the next five minutes to tie the game at 46.
After Stuart's layup tied the score at 46, the hosts reeled off seven straight points to end the quarter and led 53-46 heading into the game's final 10 minutes.
Pitt-Greensburg continued to fight back in the final stanza and a jump shot by Murphy cut the lead to one, 53-53 with 8:30 to go, but Ali Cochrane drilled a three-pointer to put the Spartans in the lead for good as D'Youville would hold on for a 67-59 victory.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action next Saturday (Dec. 17) as it pays a visit to Waynesburg with a matchup against the Yellow Jackets. Saturday's game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
