WAYNESBURG- Lyndy Baer scored 14 points and dished out a game-high seven assists, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (3-8) could not overcome a 22 point halftime deficit as it fell 80-60 to Waynesburg (6-3) in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Pitt-Greensburg connected on just 8-of-33 from the field for 24.2% and trailed 44-22 after 20 minutes of action, but played much better in the second half shooting 37.5% and outscored the Yellow Jackets 38-36 in the second half of action.
After missing the last two games due to injury,
Jenna Cole bounced back and tallied a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Also scoring in double-figures for the Bobcats was
Kelsey Oddis who added 10 points and four rebounds, while
Casey Hamilton was a beast on the boards hauling down 10 rebounds on the afternoon.
Waynesburg had two players score in double-figures led by Haley Delaney who had a game-high 25 points and also added 10 rebounds to complete the daily-double.
Pitt-Greensburg struggled on the offensive end in the opening 10 minutes as it knocked down just 2-of-14 from the field and trailed 21-7 after the opening 10 minutes.
The Bobcats were much better in the second quarter shooting 31.6% and held an 11-10 rebounding edge over Waynesburg, but the Yellow Jackets went into the half leading 44-22.
The second half was much better for the Bobcats as they nailed 13-of-15 from the free-throw line and held a 17-15 edge in rebounding, but the halftime deficit was too much as Waynesburg would hold on for the 80-60 victory.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Wednesday, when it plays host to Penn State Behrend at 6:00 p.m. for its final game before the Christmas Holiday.
