Women’s Basketball Drops AMCC Tilt To Penn State Behrend

GREENSBURG- Kelsey Oddis recorded her third double-double of the season scoring a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (3-9, 2-3 AMCC) fell 75-53 to Penn State Behrend (4-6, 3-1 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup on Wednesday night in Chambers Hall.

The Lions did most of their damage close to the basketball as they held a 46-28 advantage in the paint and won the rebounding battle 54-32, including holding a 16-7 edge in second chance points.

Alongside Oddis, Jenna Cole and Sylvia Stuart were each in double-figures with 13 and 11 points respectively, while Penn State Behrend had four in double-digits led by Ali Goetz who scored 13 points off the bench.

Pitt-Greensburg kept the game close in the first half and would trail 27-20 at halftime, but the Lions came out in the second half and outscored the Bobcats 48-33 to seal the victory.

Midway through the opening quarter, Nicole Boyer's free-throw broke an 8-8 tie and the Lions would end the the quarter on a 7-1 run and took a 15-9 lead into the second quarter. 

Neither team would score a point in the opening 2:40 of the second quarter, but a layup by Cole broke the scoring drought by both teams. Oddis then answered with a layup and two field goals followed by a layup by Cole tied the game at 17, but Behrend ended the quarter on a 13-3 run and led 27-20 at halftime.

The Lions extended their lead to 11 early in the third quarter, but the Bobcats continued to chip away at the deficit and would get within five, 42-37 on Stuart's layup with 2:53 left in the quarter.

Pitt-Greensburg entered the final quarter trailing by nine, but after Oddis drilled a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 55-42 with 8:40 left in the game, the Lions would hold the Bobcats scoreless for the next 3:35 as they extended their lead to 67-45 and would go on for the 75-53 victory.

The Bobcats return to the court Jan 4 when they host Franciscan at 6:00 p.m.
