GREENSBURG, Pa: With a 75-52 victory over the visiting Mavericks of Medaille College, the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team improved their home win streak to five games. A loss to #1 La Roche close to a month ago is the last time the Bobcats have lost in Greensburg and more impressively, the Redhawks are the only Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference member to earn a win in the Burg during the 15-16 season.
After Saturday's results, the Bobcats improve to 8-6 in conference action and 10-11 on the year with sole possession of fourth place. Medaille drops to 3-11 in the AMCC and 4-17 overall.
A strong defensive effort in the first half would see UPG outscore Medaille by a 34-19 margin. Thanks mainly to a shut-down second quarter where the Mavericks would muster just six points. The Bobcats held the Mavericks to just 16% (5-31) shooting over the first two quarters while converting 30.6% from the floor and 35.7% from three.
Pitt-Greensburg continued to pour it on in the second, twice stretching the lead to 24 points in the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats would improve on their first half shooting, sharing the basketball and getting to the rim to convert 45.5% (15-33) of their chances. From the paint in the second half, UPG held a large advantage, outscoring Medaille 24-10. The Bobcat bench would also make an impact on the night dropping 39 points compared to their Maverick counterpart's 14.
UPG would get a huge night from
Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield). The senior guard poured in a game-high 23 points including a 60% (6-10) performance from three and 100% (3-3) from the charity stripe. The Bobcats would also get double-double performances from both
Kelsey Oddis (Lower Burrell, PA, Burrell), 13 points and 11 rebounds and
Casey Hamilton (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield), with 10 and 10. Hamilton added a game-high four steals while
Chianti Sivek (Finleyville, PA, Ringgold) closed out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
With four regular season games remaining the fourth place Bobcats control their own destiny. Up first is a midweek trip to Pittsburgh to face #1 La Roche. Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday, February 10
th at 8:00pm.
