Bobcats swat Jackets 10-1

WAYNESBURG, Pa:  The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team mixed some stingy pitching with some impressive offensive output for a 10-1 midweek win over Waynesburg University.

The Bobcats improve to 6-4 on the season while Waynesburg drops to 1-8.

Pitt-Greensburg wouldn't need to score much on Wednesday with starting pitcher, Brandon Rowland (Greensburg, PA, Greensburg Salem) shutting down the Jackets over the game's first six innings.  He'd make his way through the Waynesburg lineup striking out six and allowing just one unearned run on four hits before making way for the Bobcat bullpen to finish the job.

Despite the standout performance by the pitching staff, Pitt-Greensburg would score and score often, tallying runs in six different innings.  Ryan Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park) got things rolling in the top of the first with a one-run single that brought Matt Moyer (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) in for a 1-0 advantage.  The Bobcats were back at it in the second inning, adding a pair of runs thanks to a two-RBI single by Greg Lynn (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) that slid the score to 3-0.

Waynesburg answered with a single run in the bottom of the third to cut into the deficit, 3-1.

UPG got back on the board in the fourth with a run off the bat of Adam Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park), whose double down the leftfield line scored Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) for a 4-1 Bobcat advantage.

Two more Bobcat runs followed in the top of the fifth, starting with a Chris Common (Trafford, PA, Penn-Trafford) sacrifice fly that scored Matt Germanoski (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City).  Pounds crossed home for the next Bobcat run, after an Adam Dodson hit ball forced an error on the Jacket shortstop and moved UPG atop a 6-1 advantage.

After scoreless sixth and seventh innings, Moyer lengthened the Bobcat lead with one swing of the bat in the top of the eight.  He'd deliver a two-run homerun with two outs on the board to increase the UPG advantage to 8-1.

RBI's by Pounds and Mike Parlak (Connellsville, PA, Connellsville) capped the afternoon's scoring with a pair of Pitt-Greensburg runs crossing home in the ninth for the 10-1 final.

Pounds paced Pitt-Greensburg from the plate with a standout 4-5 performance that included a double, an RBI, and a team-high four runs scored.  Germanoski wasn't far behind after finishing 3-5 with two runs scored while Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) and Jake Bulick (Sharpsville, PA, Sharpsville) also chipped in with two-hit games.

Rowland improves to 3-1 with the six-inning victory and for the second straight appearance failed to offer up an earned run.  Bill Minnick (West Mifflin, PA, West Mifflin) picked up where Rowland left off, striking out three batters and giving the Bobcats two scoreless innings of relief work before handing off the ball to Cohl Gibbs (Williamstown, NJ, Williamstown) to close out the ninth in hitless fashion.

Up next for the Bobcats is a weekend trip to Maryland.  On Saturday they'll face Washington College in a noon doubleheader followed by a single game on Sunday at Stevenson University also scheduled for a noon start.
