WASHINGTON, Pa: A Tuesday trip to Washington & Jefferson proved unkind to the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team, resulting in a 7-0 defeat at the hands of the Presidents.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 11-10 on the year while W&J improves to 8-7.
W&J jumped out to an early lead after a pair of first inning runs. They'd extend their advantage in the third inning on a three-run homerun, placing Pitt-Greensburg in a 5-0 hole. It seemed the Bobcats would begin their climb out in the top of the fourth when back-to-back singles by
Chris Common (Trafford, PA, Penn-Trafford) and
Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) led off the inning. Unfortunately for the visitors, three outs would follow to keep the Bobcats off the board.
Single runs in the sixth and seventh inning by the Presidents brought us to the 7-0 final.
The Bobcats stranded five runners and tallied seven hits with Pounds,
Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield), and
Greg Lynn (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) each picking up a pair.
Brandon Hoener (Pittsburgh, PA, Plum) earns the loss, after returning from a short injury stint to provide the pitching for the first three innings.
Cam Smith (Mars, PA, Mars Area) chipped in with scoreless fourth and fifth innings before making way for
Adam Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park) to pitch the next two.
Dakota McWilliams (Connellsville, PA, Connellsville) stepped in in the eight, giving UPG another shutout inning.
Up next is another nonconference road contest for the Bobcats. They'll travel to New Concord, OH on Thursday, April 7
th for a 3:30pm with Muskingum University.
