LATROBE- Sam Nicholls broke a scoreless tie with the game-winning goal in the 99
th minute to lift Waynesburg (2-3) past the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team (1-5) on Thursday evening at Latrobe High School.
The Yellow Jackets held a slight 11-8 advantage in shot attempts led by Melian Byler that totaled a match-high three attempts.
Courtney Hrycko,
Kayleen Schwegler, and
Brianna Burgunder each had two shots to pace the Pitt-Greensburg offensive attack.
The Bobcats outshot the Yelloow Jackets by a slight 3-2 margin in the opening 45 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net, as the game remained scoreless at the halftime break.
The second half of play featured a combined 13 shots from each side, but the match was scoreless after 90 minutes of play, until Nicholls broke the tie with the game-winning strike.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday (Sept. 17) when it plays host to Muskingum at 1:00 p.m. at Latrobe High School.
