BUFFALO, N.Y.- Lyndy Baer, Kelsey Oddis, and Jenna Cole all scored in double-figures but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team suffered an 85-72 defeat at Medaille Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, N.Y.
Entering Saturday's game, Pitt-Greensburg was riding a two-game win streak with victories over Pitt-Bradford and Penn State Altoona and despite shooting 52.0% compared to just 41.8% from the Mavericks, Medaille forced 29 Bobcat turnovers and turned them into 34 points compared to just 10 for the Bobcats.
Lyndy Baer paced the Bobcats with a team-high 21 points and also added six rebounds and five assists, while
Jenna Cole and
Kelsey Oddis were also in double-figures for Pitt-Greensburg tallying 16 and 12 points respectively.
Four players for Medaille posted double-figure scoring outputs on the afternoon led by Marceann Dunning's game-high 27 points while Dani Reinwald recorded a double-double of 18 points and 18 rebounds.
Casey Hamilton hauled down 12 boards for the Bobcats and Pitt-Greensburg edged Medaille in the battle of the boards holding a slight 39-35 advantage, but the Mavericks managed 15 offensive rebounds and held the Bobcats to just five.
Medaille jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead on baskets by Kelly McCauley and Lauren Jansen, but the Bobcats chipped away at the deficit and got within two on Cole's three-pointer with just over six minutes left in the opening quarter.
The Mavericks gave themselves some breathing room with a 9-1 run over the next two minutes and led 24-17 after the first quarter.
Pitt-Greensburg got to within five points, 28-23 early on in the second quarter, but Medaille held off multiple runs by the Bobcats to hold a 44-34 lead at halftime.
Just over four minutes into the third quarter, the Mavericks led by 23, but the Bobcats would continue to fight back for the remainder of the second quarter but ended up on the short side of an 82-72 decision.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday when it takes to the road to face Mt. Aloysius at 6:00 p.m.
