Murphy’s Career-High 16 Not Enough As Women’s Basketball Falls At Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON- Colleen Murphy scored a career-high 16 points but Mt. Aloysius used a big third quarter to complete the season-sweep of Pitt-Greensburg with a 72-64 victory Wednesday evening in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup.

Mt. Aloysius held a slight 28-22 lead at halftime but came out firing in the third quarter and outscored Pitt-Greensburg 28-13. The Bobcats responded with a dominant fourth quarter scoring 29 points compared to just 16 for the Mounties, but the halftime deficit combined with the big third quarter was too much to overcome.

Murphy led the way for the Bobcats with 16 points on 5-of-10 from the field and knocked down 3-of-7 from behind the three-point arc, while Sylvia Stuart also had a productive day on the offensive end for Pitt-Greensburg tallying 16 points and grabbing five rebounds. Jenna Cole and Kelsey Oddis were also in double-figures for the victors totaling 16 and 12 points respectively, while Cole completed her eighth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.

Breana Kendrick led the way for the Mounties with 16 points and teammate Jessa Wright helped propel Mt. Aloysius to the win with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Pitt-Greensburg shot 43.6% from the field compared to 35.6% for Mt. Aloysius and the Bobcats nailed 6-of-21 from behind the three-point arc, while the Mounties hit 5-of-18.

Mt. Aloysius used a staunch defensive effort to propel it to victory forcing 22 Bobcat turnovers, while committing just eight and turned the TO's into 16 points compared to just four for Pitt-Greensburg.

Both teams came out cold in the opening quarter as Mt. Aloysius totaled just 12 points compared to nine for Pitt-Greensburg as neither side shot over 31% in the opening 10 minutes.

The second quarter was much better for Pitt-Greensburg as it connected on 5-of-12 from the field, three of which came from behind the three-point arc. Despite knocking down 3-of-4 from three-point range, the Bobcats trailed 28-22 at halftime.

Mt. Aloysius came out on fire in the second half shooting 50% from the field in the third quarter as it outscored the Bobcats 28-13 in the third segment and held a 56-35 lead heading into the final quarter.

The final quarter was a complete 360 turnaround for both teams compared to the third quarter as Pitt-Greensburg connected on 10-of-19 from the court for a 52.6% clip compared to just 5-of-16 for the Mounties, but the deficit was too much as Mt. Aloysius would hang on for the 72-64 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday when it plays host to D'Youville for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
