HAMBURG, N.Y.- After trailing 1-0 on an early goal by the Hawks, the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team responded with three-straight goals in a 3-1 victory at Hilbert Saturday afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup.
Saturday's match was the final regular-season road contest of the season for the Bobcats.
With the win, Pitt-Greensburg improves to 8-7-1 overall and 3-5 in the AMCC, while Hilbert falls to 2-12-1, and 2-7 in the conference.
Hilbert jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on Emily Gawlak's second of the season. Pitt-Greensburg would respond just over four minutes later, as
Bri Burgunder tied the game at one. Burgunder dribbled the ball into the box and fired a shot that drilled the cross bar but went over the goal line to tie the match.
The game would remain tied at one and looked as if it would remain tied heading into halftime, but
Allie Grimm smashed home a
Kiara DeVore cross to put the Bobcats ahead 2-1 at halftime.
Pitt-Greensburg continued to hold a one goal advantage despite outshooting Hilbert in both halves of the afternoon, but with less than 10 minutes remaining, Burgunder netted her second of the match and 16th of the season to seal the 3-1 win for the Bobcats.
The Pitt-Greensburg junior midfielder, Burgunder now sits third in school history for goals (16) and points (37) in a season.
Shannon Edwards recorded six saves for Pitt-Greensburg and improved her record to 5-5-0 in 2017.
Pitt-Greensburg returns home for its regular-season finale Tuesday, hosting Penn State Altoona at 3:15 pm.
