@UPG_WBB's Second-Half Rally Falls Just Short Against D'Youville

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (1-6, 1-3 AMCC) rallied from down 19 points to take a one-point lead with 1:34 left in regulation, but a bucket by Jordan Smith and two free-throws from Magan Magee gave D'Youville (3-6, 2-1 AMCC) a 53-50 win Saturday afternoon in Chambers Hall.

Pitt-Greensburg trailed 45-26 with 2:27 left in the third quarter, but used a stout defensive effort to get back in the game. The Bobcats limited D'Youville to just eight points over the final 12:27 of regulation and would rally all the way back to take a 50-49 advantage on two free-throws by Kelsey Oddis

D'Youville came right back and went ahead on the scoreboard 51-50 as Jordan Smith hit a jumper.

After advancing the ball past half court on a timeout, Pitt-Greensburg drew up a play, but the Bobcats turned the ball over giving the possession back to the Spartans.

Pitt-Greensburg fouled Magan Magee to extend the game, but Magee came up with two clutch free-throws to extend the lead to three (53-50) with 13 seconds remaining.

The Bobcats would call a timeout and drew up a final play with a chance to tie or take the lead. On the ensuing inbounds, Oddis attempted a three-pointer which was no good and D'Youville would hold on for the 53-50 win.

Oddis led all players with 16 points and recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Durand also hauled down 12 rebounds for the Bobcats, six of which came on the offensive glass, while Maddy Coddington and Cat Gollihugh each drilled two three-pointers to help propel the comeback for Pitt-Greensburg.

Darian Evans, Monica June, and Sydney Alton each had 12 points to pace the offense for D'Youville.

The Spartans held a slight 41-38 advantage in the rebounding department with each team hauling down 12 offensive rebounds, but it was Pitt-Greensburg that churned out 18 second chance points compared to five for D'Youville.

The Bobcats return to the court Wednesday evening when they welcome Grove City for a 5:30 pm tip-off inside Chambers Hall.
