GREENSBURG- Kelsi Ebert's basket with just over 10 seconds remaining lifted Hilbert to a 59-58 victory over the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in Chambers Hall.
Prior to Saturday's tip-off, Pitt-Greensburg's three seniors,
Carly Baer,
Lyndy Baer, and
Casey Hamilton were recognized for "Senior Day".
With 1:35 remaining in regulation, the Bobcats held a 58-54 advantage after Hamilton connected on a free-throw attempt. Hilbert took a timeout and drew up a play for Ebert, in which she drilled a long three-point shot to cut the deficit to one. Pitt-Greensburg would miss the ensuing shot and Katelyn Proy grabbed the miss and would call a 30 second timeout. Hilbert drew up a play during its timeout, and the inbound pass went to Ebert who connected on a layup and was fouled. Ebert, however would miss the free-throw attempt and Pitt-Greensburg grabbed the rebound and called its last timeout.
The Bobcats advanced the ball over the halfcourt line and on the ensuing inbounds pass, Baer drove the lane, but the Hawks made a solid defensive play to tie Baer up. The arrow would give keep the ball with Pitt-Greensburg with one second remaining. The Bobcats threw an inbounds pass, but were not able to get off a shot attempt and the Hawks would hold on for the victory.
Four Bobcats totaled double-figures on the afternoon led by
Jenna Cole's 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Kelsey Oddis added 12 points, while Lyndy Baer added 11 points and six assists and Hamilton scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards.
Ebert paced the Hawks offense with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting and also dished out five assists and added five steals.
Pitt-Greensburg dominated on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court holding an impressive 40-24 advantage in the glass, including 14-7 on the offensive end.
Despite getting pounded on the boards, Hilbert found other ways to combat the rebounding deficit as it forced 27 Bobcat turnovers and turned them into 27 points compared to just 11 for Pitt-Greensburg.
The home defeat snapped the Bobcats three-game home win streak.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday, when it hosts La Roche for its final regular-season home game. Wednesday's tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
