Women's Basketball Comes Up Just Short Against La Roche In Regular-Season Home Finale

GREENSBURG- Jenna Cole, Lyndy Baer, and Sylvia Stuart each had double-figure scoring outputs but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team lost 76-59 to La Roche in the final regular-season home matchup of the season Wednesday night in Chambers Hall.

Both teams shot the ball well in the game as La Roche connected on 34-of-70 from the field for 48.6% and Pitt-Greensburg was slightly better hitting 22-of-45 for a 48.9% clip. The Bobcats also held the advantage from the foul line knocking down 13-of-16 and held the Redhawks to just 4-of-10.

Pitt-Greensburg dominated the glass holding a 39-25 advantage and was led by Casey Hamilton who totaled eight boards to go along with eight points. The Bobcats have been a beast on the boards throughout the season and have outrebounded its opponents by nearly nine rebounds per contest, including winning the battle on the glass in 19 of the 23 games in 2016-17.

Cole led the way for Pitt-Greensburg with 17 points on 8-of-11 from the field and hauled down seven rebounds, while Baer and Stuart were also in double-figures with 14 and 11 points respectively. Baer was clutch from the free-throw stripe knocking down all four of her attempts.

The Bobcats battled the Redhawks for much of the game and after a Kelsey Oddis layup, cut the La Roche lead to three with 1:17 left in the third quarter. La Roche entered the game with a perfect 16-0 record in conference play, but the game remained in the balance as the Redhawks held just a five point lead heading into the final quarter.

La Roche was pushed to the brink by a scrappy Bobcat team and ultimately escaped with the victory as the visitors got timely shooting in the final 10 minutes. In the final quarter, the Redhawks knocked down 10-of-13 from the field, including hitting two shots from behind the three-point arc.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday when it travels to face Pitt-Bradford in the regular-season finale. Saturday's matchup is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start
