Box Score CRESSON- The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Mt. Aloysius in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener Friday afternoon.
The Bobcats opened the match taking the top doubles and singles matches as well as claimed a win at no. 4 singles, but Mt. Aloysius took the final two doubles contests as well as four of the six singles matches.
Zachary Pivirotto (Export, Pa, Franklin Regional) went 2-0 on the day with wins in in both singles and doubles action. Pivirotto and
Doug Smeltzer (Latrobe, Pa, Greater Latrobe) paired up and took down Nick Goldyn and Matt Hample 8-1 in the top doubles match and Pivirotto led the charge in singles action picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win in the top spot.
Jacob Chovanec (Mt. Pleasant, Pa, Mt. Pleasant) also picked up a win for Pitt-Greensburg as he dominated his singles match winning 6-2, 6-0.
Smeltzer dropped the opening set of his single match but came back with and took set #2 to force a third set tiebreak. Smelzter dropped the opening set 7-6 but came back and took set #2 6-3, but came up just short in the tiebreak falling 7-6.
Michael Meyer (Pittsburgh, Pa, Keystone Oaks) claimed the opening set with an easy 6-2 triumph, but dropped the second stanza 6-1 and battled Jalen Terry tooth and nail, but ultimately came out on the short end falling 10-8.
The Mounties picked up wins at no. 2 and no. 3 doubles as well as at no. 2, no. 3, no.5, and no. 6 singles.
The Bobcats return to the court Tuesday, when they play host to St. Vincent at 9:00 p.m.
