PITTSBURGH- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team dropped a doubleheader at defending AMCC regular-season and tournament champion La Roche Wednesday afternoon.
La Roche took the opening game by a score of 11-4 and completed the sweep of the doubleheader with a 17-2 victory in the nightcap.
As a team, Pitt-Greensburg batted .279 and was a perfect 2-2 on the day in the stolen base department.
Patrick Aul,
Tyler Holland, and
Mike Spadafore each collected three hits apiece for the Bobcats, while
Dylan Pounds and
Chris Common each had two base knocks.
Game 1- Pitt-Greensburg 4, La Roche 11
Matt Mish got the starting nod for the Bobcats in game one, and the freshman pitcher went four innings, allowing just five hits and three earned runs.
Despite dropping the opening game, the Pitt-Greensburg displayed its vaunted offense as it outhit the Redhawks 14-10.
The Bobcats got on the board with a run in the top of the first inning when Spadafore scored as
Ryan Dodson reached base on an error. Spadafore and Pounds led off the inning with back-to-back singles, then Spadfore showed his speed and stole third base.
La Roche got the run back in the bottom of the inning and each side was at it again in the third, as both teams plated their second run of the game. Holland drove in Pounds with a one-out RBI single.
The Redhawks however would take advantage of four errors by Pitt-Greensburg and add a run in the fourth. La Roche broke the game opening with a six-run fifth inning and go on for the 11-4 win.
Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 2, La Roche 17
La Roche showed why it has been one of the perennial baseball powers in the AMCC in game two, scoring 17 runs on 22 hits. The Redhawks also got great pitching limiting the Bobcats to just two runs on five hits. The two runs for Pitt-Greensburg came in the ninth inning.
Pitt-Greensburg ended La Roche's shutout bid in the ninth inning as Aul scored
Anthony Pacelli on an RBI ground out and
Mike Parlak singled home Holland for the second run of the inning.
The Bobcats return to the diamond this weekend when they travel to face Pitt-Bradford in a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, at 1 and 3 p.m.
