BRADFORD- Trailing 6-0 after two innings, the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team climbed all the way back and trailed 6-5 heading into the seventh inning, but
Daniel Kiester's two-RBI single catapulted Pitt-Greensburg into the lead for good, as it would hold on for the 11-8 win and a split of the doubleheader.
Pitt-Bradford took the opening game 10-3, as the Panthers scored six runs in the bottom of the first and would never look back.
Overall, Pitt-Greensburg put together an impressive day offensive going 22-of-71 for a .338 batting average, which included five extra-base hits.
Mike Spadafore led the way for the Bobcats with four hits over the two games, while it was
Ian Hart and
Chris Common that each crossed home plate on three separate occasions. Kiester, Spadafore, and
Zack Zimmerman each drove in two RBI to help propel the Bobcats to the split of the doubleheader.
Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 11, Pitt-Bradford 8
Pitt-Bradford jumped out to the 6-0 advantage, scoring three in the first on two hits, and added three runs in the second on four base knocks.
The momentum would change in the fourth as the vaunted Bobcat offense started clicking. The first three Bobcats reached base safely, as
Mike Parlak singled followed by a double from Tyler Holland. Common came through and gave Pitt-Greensburg its first run with an RBI knock up the middle. Hart reached on a fielding error by Pitt-Bradford, which scored Holland, and later Zimmerman plated two on a double to right center.
Pitt-Bradford would get a run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Bobcat bullpen held the Panthers to just one run over the final five innings.
Ryan Dodson came around to score in the fifth on a wild pitch and in the following inning, hit a sac fly which scored Spadfore as Pitt-Bradford's lead was cut to 6-5 heading to the seventh.
Pitt-Greensburg would complete its comeback when Kiester vaulted the Bobcats into the lead. The fresman infielder, Kiester smacked a double up the middle which scored Hart and Common.
The Bobcats added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth and
Dylan Pounds tossed the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing just one run and struck out two to earn his third save of the season and send Pitt-Greensburg to the comeback win.
Game 1- Pitt-Greensburg 3, Pitt-Bradford 10
Pitt-Bradford took the opening game of the day by a score of 10-3. The Panthers got great pitching from sophomore Ryan Boyer, who went six innings and struck out seven.
The Bobcats had a tough time generating an offense against Boyer, as they managed just five hits for the game.
The Panthers jumped out quickly to the lead with a six-run first and would add another run in the third.
Pitt-Greensburg got two runs back in the fourth as Zimmerman reached on a fielding error, which allowed Holland to score and Spadafore displayed patience at the plate, drawing a bases loaded walk.
However, the Panthers were at it again in the sixth with an additional three runs, and despite an RBI groundout in the seventh by Holland, Pitt-Bradford would go on for the 10-3 win.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the diamond Monday, when it plays host to Chatham for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
