ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union used a three-run seventh inning to propel it to a 6-5 comeback victory over the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team Wednesday afternoon at 23
rd Street Field.
This was the final regular season game for the Bobcats as they open their quest for an AMCC Tournament Title Saturday afternoon, when they play host to Mt. Aloysius.
Despite outhitting the Purple Raiders 13-7, Pitt-Greensburg had a tough day in the field committing a season-high five errors, three of which came in the seventh inning which led to three runs.
Mike Parlak and
Vinnie Shoff each collected three hits in five plate appearances, while
Patrick Aul totaled two base knocks in three at-bats.
In preparation for this weekend's AMCC Tournament opener against Mt. Aloysius, the Bobcats used a total of seven pitchers, each of which went an inning.
Parlak opened the scoring for Pitt-Greensburg as he singled home
Dylan Pounds in the top of the first for the first run of the afternoon. Pounds showed patience to begin the game drawing a walk and Aul followed with a single through the middle of the infield.
Mount Union would take advantage of an error by the Bobcats in the second and tie the game at one. Kyle Spellman led off the inning with a single for the Purple Raiders, then moved over to third as
Brandon Hoener's pickoff attempt got away from
Tyler Holland. Spellman would come around to score as Collin Scott reached base on an error by Pounds.
The Purple Raiders added a run in the third as well as the fourth and led 3-1 after four innings of play.
Parklak was at it again in the fifth driving in his second and third runs of the day to tie the game at three. The junior outfielder smoked a ball off the right center field fence that scored
Zack Zimmerman and Pounds.
The Bobcats eventually took the lead once again in the sixth, as they had runners on first and third with two outs.
Mike Spadafore took off for second base and as he got caught in a rundown, Shoff broke for home and scored before the tag could be applied.
The Purple Raiders would go ahead 6-4 taking advantage of three Bobcats errors to score three runs in the seventh.
Pitt-Greensburg got a run back in the eighth and had the tying run on second base with two outs, but Mount Union ace Phil Mary got Shoff to ground out for the third out to end the game.
