Fetterman's Last Second Goal Pushes Women's Soccer To 1-1 Draw With Marietta

GREENSBURG- Alexa Fetterman's dramatic header with just one second remaining in regulation gave the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team a 1-1 draw with Marietta Saturday afternoon at Ridilla Field.

Marietta jumped out to a 1-0 lead on McKenzie Dorr's goal in the 55th minute and it  ooked as if the Pioneers would hold on to the lead, but after a made scramble in the box, Fetterman got a head to the ball and put it into the open net for the dramatic goal. The horn would sound for the end of regulation, but after the referees consulted with each other, it was determined that indeed the goal was scored before the clock hit zero.

Pitt-Greensburg carried the momentum in the overtime periods, holding a 5-0 advantage in shot attempts, which included two incredible diving stops by Pioneer goalkeeper Katie Conkle.

Fetterman had a terrific chance to end the game in the 96th minute as she headed the ball into the open part of the net, but Conkle had a fantastic reaction and made a diving save to keep the game tied.

With just over three minutes left in the first extra period, the Bobcats had another great opportunity to end the game with a golden goal. Bri Burgunder dribbled the ball into the left hand side of the box and put a curling shot on frame, which had the goalkeeper beat, but narrowly missed the post as the game would remain tied.

Burgunder was at it again with another chance at a golden goal, this time with just over a minute left. The junior midfielder fired a shot towards the net and looked as if it was headed towards the right hand side of the goal, but the ball smacked the cross bar and the match would end in a 1-1 tie.

Pitt-Greensburg outshot Marietta 17-11 and both Shannon Edwards and Kaitlyn Watson combined for seven saves on the afternoon.

The Bobcats return to action Wednesday when they travel to downtown Pittsburgh to face Chatham at Highmark Stadium for a 7:30 pm kickoff.
