Bobcats Best Muskingum to Open 2017 Season

GREENSBURG, Pa:  The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team made the most of their 2017 season debut, besting the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum University by a 3-1 score on Friday evening.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead courtesy of a Bri Burgunder (Moon Township, PA, Moon) finish at the 21:22 mark of the first half.  Burgunder beat the Muskie's goalkeeper with a bending right footed shot that caught the side netting after breaking on a ball laid off by freshman midfielder, Allie Grimm (Connellsville, Pa, Connellsville).  Grimm made an aggressive run, beating two defenders before playing the precision pass right in stride for Burgunder's finish.

The Bobcats were back at it again just five minutes later.  Camille Hickman (Pittsburgh, PA, Penn Hills) collected a loose ball just inside midfield, drove the ball into Muskie territory, and found Alexa Fetterman (Hollsopple, Pa, Conemaugh Township).  Fetterman carried the ball at the Muskingum goal, then laid a pass back for a breaking Grimm, who blasted the ball by the opposing keeper to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead 26 minutes and 26 seconds into the game.

Pitt-Greensburg's third score would come by way of penalty kick, thanks to another threatening run by Grimm.  The freshman baited the Muskingum defender by pushing the ball by, only to be tripped by a late tackle in the box, resulting in a Pitt-Greensburg PK.  Burgunder netted her second score of the day, cooling converting the penalty for a 3-0 Bobcat lead 13 minutes into the second half.

Muskingum would answer late with a score at the 77:41 mark.  But, the Bobcats stood strong down the stretch for the 3-1 final.

Burgunder paced the Bobcats with two goals.  Grimm wasn't far behind adding a goal, an assist, and earning the penalty kick.  Fetterman also picked up a point with an assist in her college debut.  Shannon Edwards (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg) earns the win in net after a six save performance.

Pitt-Greensburg is back in action tomorrow, as Marietta travels to Ridilla Field for a 1:00pm non-conference showdown.
