@UPG_WBB Takes Down La Roche; Oddis Eclipses 1,000 Career Points

GREENSBURG- Kelsey Oddis eclipsed 1,000 points for her career and the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team used a staunch defensive effort to defeat La Roche 62-48 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Wednesday evening in Chambers Hall.

With 2:34 left in the third quarter of play, Oddis nailed a jumper to become the 12th player in Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball history to eclipse the 1,000 point milestone. Pitt-Greensburg's win over La Roche was the first victory for the Bobcats over the Redhawks since a 65-50 victory on January 21, 2010.

Oddis totaled a game-high 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to secure her eighth double-double of the season, while Nadege Durand also recorded her fourth-straight double-double with 20 points and a game-high 16 boards, 10 of which came on the offensive glass.

Darrian Johnson and Jenna Cole both reached double-figures for La Roche totaling 14 and 13 points respectively.

The Bobcats put together a dominant defensive effort in the victory as they held La Roche to just 26.2% shooting and 5-for-24 (20.8%) from behind the three-point arc. Offensively, the Bobcats shot 34.4% from the field, but were even better in the second half knocking down 14-of-35 for a 40.0% clip over the final 20 minutes of play.

Pitt-Greensburg forced 21 turnovers from La Roche and converted the TO's into 18 points compared to just two for La Roche. The Bobcats also did a great job of generating points in the paint as they held a commanding 34-20 advantage in points in the painted area.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 7-2 advantage in the opening stages of the first quarter, but La Roche answered back and would tie the game at seven on a layup from Dalezsa Regan. Oddis broke the tie with a bucket at the four minute mark to give  the lead back to Pitt-Greensburg for the remainder of the opening quarter.

Pitt-Greensburg held an 11-9 advantage after a quarter of play, but Cole drilled a three 11 seconds into the second stanza to put the Redhawks ahead for the first time (12-11).

The two sides traded baskets for the remainder of the half and Stephanie Thomas' layup with three seconds left put the Redhawks ahead 27-24 heading into halftime.

La Roche remained in the lead early in the second half, but Maddy Coddington's three-pointer with 7:44 left in the third put the Bobcats ahead for good.

Pitt-Greensburg would go on for the win with a dominant defensive performance in the second half as it held the Redhawks to just 19.4% shooting. The Bobcats led by as much as 15 in the fourth quarter and would go on for a 62-48 victory.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday when they take to the road to face Pitt-Bradford. Saturday's tip-off is set for 4 pm.
