Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Seigfreid's Career Day Not Enough As @UPGbasketball Falls To Mt. Aloysius

GREENSBURG- Despite a career-high 23 points from freshman Cam Seigfreid, the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team dropped a 74-59 decision to Mt. Aloysius Wednesday evening in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup in Chambers Hall.

Seigfreid totaled 23 points and also hauled down a team-high eight rebounds, as the freshman guard connected on 8-of-14 from the field and 4-of-9 from behind the three-point arc. Jay Grubb added seven points and also hauled down seven boards, while Nate Burt came off the bench and provided a defensive spark with three blocks.

Trent McErlane led the way for Mt. Aloysius with a game-high 26 points on 9-of-14 from the field and 8-of-11 from behind the three-point arc. Julian Stover and Tommy Pisula also were in double-figures for the Mounties with 20 and 18 points respectively.

The two sides struggled to get their offense going in the first half as Mt. Aloysius connected on just 9-of-26 for 34.6% and 4-of-12 from three, while the Bobcats made just 7-of-23 (30.4%) and 3-of-13 from distance. Despite the cold shooting effort over the opening 20 minutes, Pitt-Greensburg went into the half trailing by just eight (28-20).

Pitt-Greensburg came out on fire to start the game as it reeled off a 7-0 run forcing Mt. Aloysius to call a timeout to stop the momentum. Mt. Aloysius slowly crept its way back into the game and eventually took its first lead at 14-13 on a bucket from Tommy Pisula with 11:13 left in the opening half.

Two free-throws from Grubb once again tied the game at 18 with just over eight minutes left, but the Bobcats would go cold for the remainder of the half, scoring just two points, which came on a Seigfreid jumper with 1:38 left.

The Mounties outscored Pitt-Greensburg 10-2 over the final 8:15 of the half and headed into the locker room leading 28-20.

McErlane pushed the Mountie advantage to double-digits with a three-pointer just 18 seconds into the second half. The Mounties shot 55% in the second half, making 16-of-29 from the field and would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Bobcats would cut the deficit to eight with 15:46 left in regulation, but the Mounties responded for two quick baskets to push their lead to 43-30. Grubb's layup with just over eight minutes left cut the Mountie lead to 10, 55-45, but Mt. Aloysius held on the rest of the way and went on for the 74-59 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday afternoon, when it travels to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on D'Youville for a 1 pm tip-off.
