Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

@UPG_WBB Prevails In OT At D'Youville Saturday Afternoon

BUFFALO, N.Y.- Kelsey Oddis' three-pointer with 20 seconds left in overtime lifted the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (4-16, 4-9 AMCC) to a 78-76 victory at D'Youville (5-13, 4-7 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in the College Center Gymnasium.

Jordan Smith's layup with 33 seconds left in overtime put the Spartans ahead 76-75, but Oddis came right back and scored three of her game-high 32 points to put the Bobcats back in the lead (78-76) with 20 seconds left in the extra period.

D'Youville called a 30-second timeout and on the ensuing possession drew a foul and headed to the foul line for two attempts. Sara Field missed both attempts and the possession would head back to Pitt-Greensburg.

The Spartans intentionally fouled to extend the game and Cat Gollihugh headed to the line with four seconds remaining on the clock. The freshman guard came up empty on both attempts, but the Bobcats forced a Spartan miss on the next possession sending them to the thrilling 78-76 victory.

Oddis led the way for Pitt-Greensburg tying her season-high with 32 points, which included a school-record seven three-pointers. Oddis also hauled down 11 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season, while Sam Ballow and Colleen Murphy were also in double-figures for Pitt-Greensburg. Ballow tied her career-high with 14 points and dished out a career-best five assists, while Murphy added 10 points in 33 minutes of action. Nadege Durand came close to a triple double totaling nine points, nine rebounds, all of which came on the offensive glass, and dished out a career-high seven helpers.

As a team, the Bobcats shot 34.6% from the field and were on fire from behind the three-point arc, tying a school-record with 13 three-point makes.  Pitt-Greensburg also did a fantastic job of taking care of the basketball, committing a season-low nine turnovers on the afternoon and continued to get all of the players involved, recording a season-best 21 assists on 28 made field goals.

Despite being outrebounded 55-40, the Bobcats held a 23-21 advantage on the offensive glass and turned the extra possessions into 24 second chance points, compared to just 16 for D'Youville.

Defensively, Pitt-Greensburg forced 17 Spartan turnovers and converted the TO's into 21 points compared to 14 for the hosts.

D'Youville had three players total double-figures on the day, led by Jordan Smith who scored 20 points on 7-of-12 from the floor. Monica June added 18, while Sara Field notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.

The Spartans got off to a quick start in the opening quarter as they opened on an 11-0 run. Pitt-Greensburg got on the board with 4:23 left on a layup from Durand, but D'Youville held a 17-7 advantage after the opening 10 minutes of play.

D'Youville carried the momentum into the second quarter as it pushed its lead to 21-10  on three-straight buckets, but Oddis responded with a jumper, which started a 10-0 Bobcat run to cut the deficit to one (21-20) with 6:42 left in the half.

The Spartans once again pushed their lead to six (26-20) on buckets from Darian Evans and June, but two free-throws from Ballow and a three-pointer by Gollihugh with 23 seconds left in the half cut the D'Youville lead to 30-27 at the halftime break.

After the halftime break, Field connected on a layup for the first points of the half, but Oddis came back and drilled three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give the Bobcats their first lead of the afternoon (32-31).

Following the three-pointers from Oddis, the Bobcats would be held scoreless for the next 6:22 of the quarter. The Spartans took advantage of the scoreless drought from the Bobcats and pushed their lead to 47-36, but Durand would pull Pitt-Greensburg within eight as she connected on a jumper and a free-throw in the final six seconds of the quarter.

A jumper from Evans pushed the Spartan lead back to seven, 54-47 with just over seven minutes left in regulation and D'Youville continued to hold the lead until the 4:50 mark when Oddis drilled a three to tie the game at 56.

Smith came right back and put D'Youville ahead 58-56, but after a 30-second timeout from Pitt-Greensburg, Durand scored a layup and Murphy connected on a three to put the Bobcats ahead 61-59 with 2:22 left in regulation.

The game would be tied on Cedrice Howard's layup with 1:54 left, which would be the last points in regulation as neither team was able to take the lead, sending the game into OT.

The Bobcats came out with five-straight points to begin the extra period as Oddis hit a jumper and Ballow recorded an old-fashioned three-point play to push the lead to 66-61. Smith answered with a three for the Spartans before Oddis nailed a jumper as Pitt-Greensburg continued to hold the lead in OT.

With just over two minutes left in the extra period, Ballow's three pushed the Bobcat advantage to 73-68, but the Spartans reeled off a 6-0 run and jumped back into the lead 74-73 with 1:09 left in OT.

After a 30-second timeout from Pitt-Greensburg,  Murphy nailed a jumper to put the Bobcats ahead 75-74 with 48 seconds remaining. Smith answered with a layup to put the Spartans ahead (76-75) , but Oddis displayed her senior leadership on the next possession and drilled a three to send the Bobcats to the 78-76 victory.
