Hot Shooting Second Half Lifts @UPG_WBB Past Penn State Behrend Saturday afternoon

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team shot 50% in the second half en route to a 62-57 victory over Penn State Behrend in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Hall.

With the win, Pitt-Greensburg has posted two victories in a row and moves to 5-16 overall and 5-9 in the AMCC, while Penn State Behrend falls to 8-13 and 6-8 in conference play.

Kelsey Oddis led the way for the Bobcats scoring a game-high 20 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds, while Maddy Coddington posted a career-high 13 points and also dished out a personal best nine assists in the victory. Colleen Murphy also added 11 points on 3-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc and Nadege Durand hauled down a game-high 16 boards, six of which came on the offensive glass.

Penn State Behrend had three players score in double-figures, led by Erika Woll's 14 points, while Autumn Bayes recorded a double-double in the losing effort, with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

After shooting just 30% in the opening half, Pitt-Greensburg regrouped at the halftime break and caught fire in the second half, knocking down 14-of-28 for 50% and 4-of-10 from three-point distance. The Bobcats clamped down on the defensive end of the court over the final 20 minutes, holding the Lions to just 27.5% from the field and just 2-of-8 from three.

Pitt-Greensburg sprinted out of the gate and took a 10-3 lead just under three minutes into the game and forced the Lions to call a timout to stop the bleeding.

The Lions cut the deficit to 14-11 late in the first stanza, but the Bobcats scored five straight to end the quarter and led 19-11 after 10 minutes.

Pitt-Greensburg continued to hold the advantage on the scoreboard until late in the first half when a Woll fastbreak layup gave Behrend its first lead at 27-26 with 91 seconds left in the opening half.

Woll drilled a three on the next possession to push the Lion lead to 30-26, but Sabre Turner's layup sent the Bobcats into the half trailing by just two.

Pitt-Greensburg opened the second half with two-straight buckets to once again take the lead on the scoreboard. The advantage remained in the Bobcat's favor, until Emily Kinecki's three-point shot put the Lions in front by one, 39-38 with 3:23 left in the third.

A fastbreak layup from Oddis put the Bobcats back (40-39) in front for the remainder of the third quarter, and Pitt-Greensburg headed into the final quarter holding a 44-41 lead.

Behrend jumped back in front (46-44) just over a minute into the fourth on a layup from Ally Dilllman, but after Durand tied the game at 52, back-to-back three-pointers from Colleen Murphy and Sam Ballow gave Pitt-Greensburg control of the outcome.

The Bobcats held Behrend to just five points over the final 5:58 of the regulation and would go on for a 62-57 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday evening, when it hosts Franciscan for an 8 pm tip-off.
