Women's Volleyball Scores 3-0 Victory Against Hilbert; Bosh Earns First Career Coaching Win

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball split its two matches against D'Youville and Medaille Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-0 decision to D'Youville and earning a 3-0 win against Hilbert.

The 3-0 victory over Hilbert gave head coach Erica Bosh her first career coaching victory. Combined between the two matches, Pitt-Greensburg outhit its opponents, posting a .100 attack percentage compared to just .072 for D'Youville and Hilbert.

Offensively, Marissa Leonard powered the Bobcat attack with a team-high 21 kills, while freshman Alexis Ray posted 15 and both Sabre Turner and Mackenzie Schropp tallied 12 kills. Leonard also did a masterful job of serving the volleyball, tallying a team-high five service aces, while Kassi Niver led the defensive effort with 27 digs. Emma Dongilli also contributed to the offensive attack with 61 assists.

In the opening set, back-to-back kills by Leonard gave the Bobcats a 23-18 advantage and Hilbert called a timeout in hopes of killing the momentum. Following the timeout, Hilbert reeled off five-straight points to tie the set at 23, but Pitt-Greensburg rallied with kills from Schropp and Leonard to win the set 25-23.

The Bobcats took control early on in the second set leading 8-3 and would push their advantage to 11-6 before the Hawks called for a timeout. The Hawks reeled off three-straight points out of the break, but Pitt-Greensburg answer with three-straight of their own. Later on, kills from Leonard, Brittany Eyler and a service ace by Dongilli put the set away for Pitt-Greensburg.

Hilbert kept things close early on in the third stanza, taking a 9-8 advantage after a Schropp error, but Pitt-Greensburg responded with a stretch of four-straight points to regain the momentum. Hilbert cut the deficit to 23-19 late in the set, but Pitt-Greensburg notched the final two points of the match.
