Burgunder’s Second Half Strike Propels Women’s Soccer To 1-0 Shutout At La Roche

PITTSBURGH- Bri Burgunder's goal in the 56th minute lifted the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at La Roche in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match Tuesday afternoon at the Baierl Athletic Complex.

Burgunder's goal was her eighth of the season and her fourth game-winning goal of the season. Coming into Wednesday's matchup with the Redhawks, Burgunder was tied for first in program history with 10 game-winning goals and with today's winning strike, the Pitt-Greensburg senior moves ahead of Jen McIntosh (2002-05) for sole possession of first place in the record books.

Offensively, Pitt-Greensburg outshot La Roche by a slight 15-13 margin and dominated the first half, holding an 11-4 advantage in shot attempts. Despite tallying nine attempts in the second half, La Roche could not beat Bobcat goalkeeper Alexa Fetterman, who recorded four saves in her first career start in goal.

Burgunder tallied a team-best four shots and three shots on goal, while Andi McGinnis and Erika Caldro each contributed to the offensive attack with three attempts each.

The Bobcats dominated the first half of play and more specifically, the opening 30 minutes. Pitt-Greensburg tallied five shots and four corner kicks over that time period while holding the Redhawks without an offensive attempt. La Roche managed its first attempt in the 32nd minute when Alonda Gonzalez's shot missed the goal.

Despite the dominating first half, the Bobcats and Redhawks remained scoreless after 45 minutes. Pitt-Greensburg came close to taking the lead just two minutes into the second half, as Caldro drilled a shot towards goal, only to have her attempt smack the post.

Just over 10 minutes later, Burgunder found the back of the net for the eighth time this season and sent the Bobcats to the 1-0 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday afternoon, for its final regular-season road matchup of the season at Pitt-Bradford. Saturday's match is scheduled to kick-off at 1 pm.
